Spin Me Round

It's time to Celebrate your local independent Record Store!
Select Record Stores around North America are taking part in the
Record Store Day. Some record store are featuring special in store performances, DJ sets, meet-and-greets etc. For a list of record stores doing a little something special to celebrate visit www.recordstoreday.com. Even if your local independent store is not listed, stop by and peruse the selection. You may just pick up a tasty lp by an artist you have never heard of before and then become wickedly obsessed with. Stop by and chat with the treasure that may be the local record store employee. Who hasn't had a massive crush on a local record store clerk? If you are lucky they are friendly and full of pop knowledge that they are eager to share (grumpiness be damned!). Or, they may be super grumpy but still be full of great recommendations (well...they may present their opinions as 'facts' but that is part of the charm) As Nick Hornby states;

"Yes, yes, I know. It's easier to download music, and probably cheaper. But what's playing on your favourite download store when you walk into it?
Nothing, that's what. Who are you going to meet in there? Nobody. Where are the notice boards offering flatshares and vacant slots in bands destined for superstardom? Who's going to tell you to stop listening to that and start listening to this? Go ahead and save yourself a couple of quid. The saving will cost you a career, a set of cool friends, musical taste and, eventually, your soul. Record stores can't save your life. But they can give you a better one."
